Job DescriptionThe position serves as a Research Coordinator and Lab Manager in the Vittor Lab within the Division of Infectious Diseases. The Vittor Lab focuses on the intersection of the environment and infectious diseases. The candidate will conduct and oversee diagnostic laboratory work on human and mosquito samples, and coordinate clinical studies. The candidate should have experience in clinical research as well as wet bench work.
Duties for this position, which is based in Gainesville, include laboratory management (including purchasing, maintaining regulatory documents, ensuring biohazard and biosafety complains, and supervising undergraduate students) as well as coordination of clinic studies (including filing regulatory documents with the IRB, maintaining paper and electronic data capture, conducting surveys, development and maintaining research Red Cap databases, auditing databases and summarizing reports).
Coordination & Regulatory Management
- Coordinate farmer recruitment, conduct interviews with farmers; help coordinate recruitment of encephalitis patients in the hospital, conduct interviews with patients.
- Maintain IRBs, study database in RedCAP. Compliance logs and documents.
- Submit adverse events reports in a timely manner to IRB, filing regulatory documents with the IRB and maintenance and storage of all research and related records.
- Keeping Red Cap databases up to date, as well as compliance and regulatory binders.
- Maintain records/archives documents after project closeout.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate research team calls and meetings needed to facilitate communication about farmer, hospital-based, and laboratory-based work.
- Ensure that all research staff are trained in all study procedures and that job duties are clearly communicated.
- Laboratory management (including biohazard, biosafety matters and student oversight) and conducting laboratory assays (viral and bacterial diagnostic serological assays, cell culture maintenance, molecular work (RT-qPCRs, preparing samples for sequencing)).
- Conduct literature reviews and prepare summary reports for manuscripts and grant applications.
- Assist with data analysis and summarize preliminary data in tables and reports.
- Maintain records/archives documents after project closeout.
- Instruct and advise Students, Residents and Fellows working on mentored research projects. Perform related duties as required or deemed appropriate to responsibilities and functions of mentored research.
- Support PI sponsored projects. Assist with the new and continuing review submission of IRB documents and annual reports for all research projects in PI’s portfolio.
$46,000 - $55,000; commensurate with education and experience
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous experience with human subject research, which could include recruitment of participants into research studies, collection of research data, and/or working with IRB protocols.
- Experience working in a laboratory, including knowledge of biosafety and biohazard handling.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Friendly communication by email, phone, and face-to-face. Ability to travel as needed.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Experience supervising other people or research projects.
