Job DescriptionThis 12‑month non‑tenure‑accruing position is available at the Blueberry Breeding and Genomics Lab of the Horticultural Science Department at the University of Florida. The successful candidate will join the in‑vitro breeding team to advance tissue culture, mutation breeding, ploidy manipulation, and related research activities.
Key Responsibilities- Design and conduct multi‑environment field screening trials to characterize novel mutant lines.
- Perform marker‑trait association analyses using genome‑wide SNP datasets to elucidate mutation induction mechanisms and trends in different regions.
- Design metabolic profiling of tissue.
- Identify research opportunities related to tissue culture and cellular manipulation.
- Help develop haploid lines and screen somatic mutation accumulation during tissue culture.
- Use analytical omics to increase understanding of regeneration, differentiation, competence, and mutations.
- Prepare data reports, present results at scientific meetings, and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Contribute to grant writing and support mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students.
- Help mentor other team members and students.
- Doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable).
- Experience in tissue culture experimentation.
- Strong team player willing to train junior scientists.
- Independent, self‑motivated, well‑organized, and critical thinker.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Supportive of the mission of the Land‑Grant system.
- Commitment to UF core values.
- Driver's license to drive to and work in open‑sun field trials.
- Experience with autotetraploid or polyploid plant genetics.
- A doctorate in Plant Breeding, Plant Genetics, Horticulture, or a closely related field.
- Experience with field experimental design and phenotypic data collection in crop plants.
- Experience with fruit crops.
