Title:
Laboratory Technician II
- Assist in conducting research within Dr. Karina Serban’s lab focusing on measuring biological responses in lungs affected by emphysema.
- Plan and conduct animal experiments as outlined by the Principal Investigator and lab manager using a Teague machine to expose small animals to research grade cigarettes.
- Perform genotyping and maintain up-to-date electronic or written records of all transgenic colonies.
- Undertake scientific experiments including RNA, DNA, and protein analysis, PCR, and tissue sectioning as directed by the principal investigator and lab manager.
- Keep thorough electronic or written notes of all experiments and analyze data to help prepare figures for lab meetings.
- Perform maintenance of lab equipment, inventory supplies and consumables, and assist with storage and disposal of chemical and biological waste.
- Keep records of laboratory protocols and maintain a complete and accurate laboratory notebook.
- Attend weekly lab meetings and perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Associate’s degree in an appropriate area and two years of related experience, or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of related experience.
- Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
- Preferred to have a degree in biology or a related field and at least two years of experience in a laboratory environment.
- Knowledge of theory and practice of scientific techniques and experimentation.
- Previous laboratory experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR.
- Experience with small animal handling and manipulation.
$19.23 - $25.28 per hour, commensurate with education and experience.
