Job DescriptionTo collaborate in design of and independently conduct laboratory, greenhouse and field experiments on studying the virulence mechanism of Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus including identification of the targets of effectors, their cellular localization, and functional analysis of the targets using genome editing technology. Conduct experiments to investigate the interaction between microorganisms and plant cells, with a focus on citrus HLB and canker diseases by conducting genome editing, protein–protein interactions, transgenic over-expression, and biochemical analyses.
Develop and implement research protocols, and troubleshoot experimental procedures as needed. Supervise and coordinate the activities of full‑time Agricultural Assistants, and graduate research assistants in the laboratory and greenhouse. Analyze research datasets, evaluating data by performing appropriate statistical calculations and reporting results. Study how Las causes programmed cell death inside the phloem and investigate the underlying mechanisms. Participate in the preparation of research reports, manuscripts, and presentations.
To statistically analyze data, adopt computer software, and develop programs for analyses as needed to summarize data and assist in preparation of reports and publications. Participate in research meetings, seminars, and conferences to present research findings and stay updated on the latest developments in the field. Collaborate with other researchers, students, and staff to achieve research goals and objectives. Evaluate new lab technologies and collaborate with vendors to ensure the laboratory has the necessary equipment and resources to conduct research.

$61,000 - $99,000 commensurate with education and experience
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field and seven years of experience
- Master's degree in biology or a related field with five years of experience
- Doctoral degree in biology or related field with two years of experience
- A Ph.D. degree with preference in Molecular Biology;
Plant Pathology;
Microbiology; bacteriology; or related field. - Candidates with training in molecular plant-microbe interactions, genome editing, protein–protein interactions, transgenic over-expression are especially encouraged to apply.
- Ability to conduct biological research, studies or analyses using scientific methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of the procedures, techniques and equipment used in lab testing and analysis.
- Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques used in biological research, analysis or testing.
- Ability to collect, record and analyze scientific data relating to the biological sciences.
- Skill in the use of scientific lab, greenhouse, and field equipment.
- Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments
