Job Description

The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care & Sleep Medicine is accepting applications for a Biological Scientist I depending on experience and qualifications. The incumbent will conduct basic research in an immunology lab focusing on inflammatory diseases, vaccine development, and lung diseases. In addition to conducting research, the individual will be responsible for lab management activities within the lab, including developing and evaluating laboratory procedures, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ordering and tracking lab consumables.

The applicant must be organized, dependable, and have meticulous attention to detail and the ability to finish assignments on time. More information on Dr. Jin's laboratory can be found at: (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below)..

Laboratory Management
  • Assist with the day-to-day management and operation of the laboratory.
  • Perform laboratory experiments and evaluate research data.
  • Train and mentor laboratory personnel on established protocols and techniques.
  • Order laboratory supplies and maintain inventory.
  • Assist with laboratory budgeting and resource management.
  • Maintain laboratory records, registrations, and documentation.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety standards and regulatory requirements, including interactions with Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Radiation Safety, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
Research
  • Conduct basic research in an immunology laboratory focused on vaccine development and inflammatory diseases.
Data Management and Analysis
  • Organize, measure, tabulate, and analyze experimental data.
  • Prepare data summaries to support research activities and project objectives.
Research Development and Collaboration
  • Collaborate with the principal investigator to design and implement laboratory techniques and research methodologies.
  • Independently establish, optimize, and validate new laboratory methods.
  • Train laboratory personnel on newly established methodologies.
  • Oversee quality control procedures and troubleshoot laboratory protocols and techniques.
Expected Salary

$22.12 - $29.09;
Commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related life science field.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred applicant will have previous lab management experience.

Candidate Eligibility

This position is eligible for veteran's preference.
