Postdoctoral Associate – Agriculture Nutrient Management

Postdoc Aso. The Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) Soil, Water, and Ecosystem Sciences (SWES) department is hiring a Post‑Doctoral Associate to lead precision nitrogen application demonstrations and research in the Suwannee Valley agricultural area of North Florida.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and conduct precision nitrogen application demonstrations across a variety of crops (corn, sorghum, cotton, snap beans, and others) using high‑clearance spray applicators modified with drop tubes to band nitrogen near growing crops.
  • Visit farm sites routinely to collect soil and plant tissue samples, monitor soil moisture sensor data, and mine residual nitrogen levels.
  • Participate in logistical meetings before, during, and after each farm demonstration, coordinating with UF/IFAS County Extension faculty and Regional Specialized Agents.
  • Analyze collected data and prepare written reports, including quarterly reports to the funding agency (FDACS), EDIS documents, and peer‑reviewed publications.
  • Drive to field locations and stakeholder meetings, present findings, and conduct field work in hot, humid conditions.
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Agronomy, Soil Science, Environmental Sciences/Engineering, Nutrient Management, Water Quality, or a related field.
  • Strong oral and verbal communication skills.
  • Supportive of the mission of the Land‑Grant system and committed to UF core values.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Preferred: demonstrated leadership in interdisciplinary teams; experience working with stakeholders to accomplish shared goals; experience publishing in extension and/or peer‑reviewed publications.
Salary

Commensurate with experience and education.
