Facility-Ammonia Refrigeration Supervisor

Ammonia Refrigeration Supervisor is responsible for maintaining ammonia equipment, including repairing boilers, chillers, and auxiliary equipment such as pumps, steam/water valves, air compressors, high‑pressure condensate, evaporators, and condensers.

Supervises in the absence of the Ammonia Manager, trains and develops team members in maintaining an ammonia refrigeration system, and partners with the Maintenance Department to support all facilities maintenance.

Assists and remains knowledgeable in maintenance needs throughout the facility, building, grounds, and material‑handling equipment, and works to reduce costs while maintaining energy efficiency.

Monitors load demands and adjusts boilers, compressors, and pumps to maintain required steam, air, and water output, and adjusts chemical feed systems for water treatment to ensure proper levels.

Understands and maintains valves and equipment controls to regulate steam, water, and fuel flow for refrigeration.

Inspects boiler safety devices, chillers, and monitors meters/gauges to ensure proper operation; reports and documents abnormal conditions or major repairs needed; assists in corrective action and repairs as required.

Assists with repairs of meters, valves, gaskets, joints as needed; maintains cleanliness and safety standards in boiler, chiller, and compressor rooms; promotes best practices and standards toward excellence.

Conducts root‑cause failure analysis to prevent failures, extend equipment life, and reduce costs.

Assists in annual inspections, demonstrates safe work practices, and adheres to organizational safety programs; documents work, time, parts, and compliance data using software to support preventive and predictive maintenance for system reliability.

Maintains Process Safety Management (PSM) guidelines, documents records, and uses the ePSM system to meet compliance requirements; collaborates with third‑party vendors to support PSM.

Performs any additional tasks related to facilities, maintenance, building, and grounds as required.

• Operator 1 Ammonia Certification (minimum requirement); working toward Operator 2 Ammonia Certification, RETA Certification, and Hazwoper certification. Must be certified to work on and repair the ammonia system.
• 2–5 years of real work experience as a refrigeration technician/operator.
• High school diploma or GED, valid certifications for the position, and a valid driver’s license.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; proficiency in reading schematics and using software to track equipment, work, time, inspections, and expenses; experience in process safety management and tracking all ammonia system records.
• Experience in ammonia refrigeration, engine & boiler systems, electricity & motor controls, pneumatics & hydraulics, mechanical systems with predictive/preventive maintenance, site utilities, and system troubleshooting.
• Skills in pipe fitting, welding, machining, metal fabrication, electrical, and controls.
