Mechanical Craft Worker

Job Summary
:
Performs semi-skilled work as the second member of a maintenance crew assisting a higher skilled trades person in the accomplishment of industrial plant mechanical maintenance. Initially performs general maintenance activities under close supervision and as experience grows, handles more complex assignments with greater independence.

Essential Job Functions
:

• Assist journey level mechanics in the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial plant mechanical equipment and systems such as pumps, large horsepower gear boxes, mixers, bar screens, conveyor belts, slurry pumps and chemical feed pumps.
• Participate in the repair of mechanical equipment used in the wastewater industry, Materials Recycling Facility, and compost facility.
• Perform maintenance and repair work of a routine nature under the direct supervision of a Plant Mechanic.
• Inventory or restock frequently used supplies and materials.
• Maintain activity logs and records of jobs completed and supplies and equipment used.
• Also perform general maintenance tasks necessary to maintain facilities and perform general cleaning and housekeeping maintenance tasks.
• Work days, but may be called to work weekends, evenings, and weather‑related events to perform emergency work as assigned.
• Perform preventive maintenance checks as scheduled.
• All other duties as assigned.

Additional Minimum Qualifications
:

• Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Basic Windows and computer knowledge and skill level required.
• Testing for reading comprehension and basic workplace math calculations administered prior to an interview or job offer; scores are a contributing factor for selection.
• Required to work days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and weather events as scheduled or needed in accordance with departmental policies.

Licenses and Certifications
:

• Possession of a current valid driver license.
• Possession of a Class A CDL is preferred or ability to obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months from date of hire.

• Maintain various activity records and logs of supplies and equipment used.
• Perform preventive maintenance checks as scheduled.
• Assist journey‑level mechanics in the installation, maintenance, and repair of industrial plant mechanical equipment and systems such as pumps, large horsepower gear boxes, mixers, bar screens, conveyor belts, slurry pumps and chemical feed pumps.

Additional Minimum Qualifications
:

• Intermediate proficiency in welding; welding certification is desirable but not required.
• General knowledge of plumbing and pipe fitting is desirable.
• Additional vocational or technical training in mechanical maintenance for application in an industrial plant environment is preferred.
