Classification

Title:

Plumber IV

High school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in the procedures and methods for installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing fixtures, heating fixtures, and accessories; appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Currently NCCER Certified in trade or pass NCCER Knowledge Verification and NCCER Performance Verification within 4 months. Pass trade specific Critical Task Assessment within 4 months.

Complete NCCER Core within 6 months.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains supply and discharge piping systems by opening clogged building and systems piping and replaces diaphragms.
  • Team Lead for three or more employees. Mentor and train lower-level technicians.
  • Coordinates materials and supplies for larger projects.
  • Coordinates paperwork and process for scheduled work outages.
  • Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on faucets, sinks, traps, commodes, urinals, and flush valves.
  • Performs repairs and preventive maintenance on gas, vacuum, air, chilled, steam, and hot water lines.
  • Detects the location of gas leaks and repairs accordingly.
  • Installs and maintains sump pumps.
  • Repairs and changes out air compressors, booster pumps, and vacuum pumps.
  • Repairs and replaces plumbing fixtures including backflow prev enters.
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and replaces sanitary and storm sewer lines, including rod sewer lines.
  • Cleans and maintains shop and personal plumbing equipment and personal protective equipment.
  • Provides support to other trades and contractors.
  • Installs and repairs plumbing for laboratories and classrooms including safety showers, drinking fountains, deionized water, water heaters, point of use water filters, domestic, and reverse osmosis systems, pools, and waterfall fountains.
  • Performs fume hood valve and vacuum breaker repair.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in the procedures and methods for installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing fixtures, heating fixtures, and accessories; appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  • Currently NCCER Certified in trade or pass NCCER Knowledge Verification and NCCER Performance Verification within 4 months.
  • Pass trade specific Critical Task Assessment within 4 months.
  • Complete NCCER Core within 6 months.

Preferred:

  • KNOWLEDGE
    :
    Vast knowledge of reading mechanical prints and drawings; excellent working knowledge of plumbing distribution and mechanical codes.
  • SKILLS
    :
    Skill in using pipe cutter, reamer, threading machines, and other specialized tools and equipment.
  • ABILITIES
    :
    Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments; ability to communicate effectively; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to solder copper fittings through 4 inches in size without leaks; ability to operate propress fitting tools (copper compression and cast iron snap cutters); ability to locate and repair gas leaks; ability to repair piping; ability to replace diaphragms;

    ability to maintain chemical readings for pools and fountains; ability to maintain deionized (DI) and reverse osmosis (RO) systems for HSC.
Other requirements
  • Position requires a post-offer health assessment.
  • Position requires a criminal background check.
  • State of Florida Class E operator license (as applicable).
Schedule and compensation
  • NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE
    : 3PM-1:30AM M-R; schedule may vary depending on location.
  • 40 hours per week.
  • Emergencies as needed; swing shift and on-call as required.
  • Position considered as Essential Personnel as defined by UF Policy.
  • $23.00 to $25.00 hourly; position has additional compensation for evening shift work.
