Minimum Biweekly Rate of Pay: $1,751.77 (Current spending restrictions apply: for internal promotion, the position is filled at the minimum of the pay grade or up to 5% of the employee’s current rate, whichever is higher.)

This is a highly responsible position in the criminal justice system. The employee is expected to perform all duties in an optimal manner, demonstrate leadership by acting as a positive role model for staff, youth and the community, and treat all persons with dignity and respect.

Responsibilities include:

• Adhering to agency or facility policies and procedures.
• Maintaining a safe and secure environment for youth, staff and oneself.
• Ensuring “zero tolerance” for detained youth escapes, abuse, sexual harassment and inappropriate conduct by staff (Red Flag Behavior).
• Assisting in the operation of a secure detention center, assuring the safe custody of all detained youth and ensuring their constitutional rights, with special concern for legal, medical, and mental health issues.
• Assisting the supervisor to ensure that detained youth’s services and programming comply with court orders, rules, Department policy and Quality Assurance standards.
• Completing training requirements to maintain proficiency in dispensing medications to youth, including distributing medication in the absence of a designated medical health authority or facility nurse.
• Performing duties in Master Control, admissions, releases, and transportation as necessary.
• Supervising youth in all activities, maintaining control and giving directives, counseling, and utilizing appropriate levels of verbal or physical Protective Action Response (PAR) when needed to control detained youth in accordance with departmental and facility policies.
• Inspecting facility, youth, visitors, and packages delivered to the facility for contraband.
• Training and coaching employees concerning their duties and orienting them regarding facility policies and procedures.
• Assuming acting supervisor role in the supervisor’s absence.
• Writing reports and preparing required records regarding incidents, youth movement, noteworthy information, and documenting all violations of facility operating procedures and regulations.
• Preparing detained youth for court appearances and transporting them to medical, criminal justice, social services, and judicial facilities as needed according to policy.
• Using security and emergency equipment to ensure the safety and security of detained youth and the facility.
• Completing 10‑minute checks, 5‑minute checks, or Constant Sight and Uninterrupted Sound Supervision for every detained youth confined to room confinement or identified as suicidal.
• Assessing and analyzing information from the Juvenile Justice Information System.
• Initiating and maintaining detained youth counts as directed by policy.
• Attending and completing all required training under DJJ’s Direct Care Training Policy and other assigned training, including CPR, AED, and First Aid techniques.
• Attending required meetings.
• Maintaining a valid driver’s license and reporting any changes within 72 hours; must not operate a vehicle if license is revoked, suspended or otherwise restricted.
• Complying with Florida Statutes Section 215.422 and the Prompt Payment Compliance Law.
• Performing other related duties as required.
