Job DescriptionMotor Vehicle Operator II responsible for safely operating large state vehicles exceeding 30,000 lbs. to remove waste and recycling from the UF campus. Operates front‑load refuse trucks, empties dumpsters and carts, and transports materials to off‑campus disposal or processing sites. Maintains electronic collection records via tablet and supports the Recycling & Solid Waste Management team.
Responsibilities- Drive front‑load refuse trucks and empty contents of dumpsters and carts into collection truck.
- Transport recyclable materials and other waste to disposal or processing sites operated by Alachua County and private partners.
- Use external equipment such as cart tippers and smaller carrier trucks to collect recyclables and large items.
- Record all collection stops electronically and document or report any issues encountered.
- Perform daily pre‑ and post‑trip vehicle inspections and keep trip logs.
- Clean cab and wash down the collection vehicle at shift end and report maintenance needs.
- Respond to supervisor via phone or radio for immediate attention or action required.
- Attend departmental meetings and training sessions.
- Assist with recycling collection at campus events, including nights and weekends.
- Completion of ninth grade and at least one year of relevant experience.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required; CDL may be needed based on vehicle type.
- Post‑offer health assessment required to hold CDL.
- Ability to operate a vehicle >30,000 lbs. and maintain a valid CDL.
- Excellent communication with supervisor and team members.
- Flexibility to work a 6:00 am–2:30 pm schedule, including Saturday rotations, occasional overtime, and emergency work during large events or storms.
Salary: $21.28 hourly based on experience.
