Position Purpose

School counselors are certified/licensed educators who improve student success for each and every student by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program.

• School counselors help each and every student:
  Apply academic achievement strategies, manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills
• Appropriate duties include providing:
  • Individual student academic planning and goal setting n school counseling lessons based on Standards
  • Short-term counseling to students
  • Referrals for long-term support
  • Collaboration with families/teachers/ administrators/ community for student success
  • Advocacy for students at individual education plan meetings and other student-focused meetings
  • Data analysis to identify student issues, needs and challenges
  • Consult and collaborate with education partners to create success for each and every student

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Works in standard office and school building environments.

• Certification/License:
• GA State Certification as a Guidance Counselor.
• Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

• Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
• Masters Degree preferred.

Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
