POSITION SUMMARY

Brenau University is looking for qualified adjunct faculty to enhance its academic programs. These appointments are on a course-by-course basis. Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and discipline. These postings are continuous in order to develop a qualified pool of interested candidates. If your academic area of interest/expertise meets the programmatic needs of Brenau University at any time, you will be contacted to discuss proposed teaching opportunities.

These needs change from semester to semester. A terminal degree is preferred.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Terminal degree in a field related to the course.
  • Experience teaching in higher education
  • Professional experience
  • Well‑developed written and oral communication skills
  • Looking for adjuncts to teach Theatre:
    Script Analysis, Voice & Speech (particularly voice‑over acting), Scene Study, Movement (particularly Alexander Technique), Directing, Acting, and New Works. Musical Theatre:
    Applied Voice lessons (a one‑on‑one vocal lesson), the applicant will need to be able to play the piano. This is not a comprehensive list, but it does show the current need.
  • Provide two letters of recommendation in your application, CV, website, and the cover letter should mention the courses you are particularly interested in.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach courses based on experience and as assigned by the Chair. Use the BU required syllabus template and Canvas.
  • Mentor undergraduate students. No advising for courses.
  • Serve the Department of Theatre as needed. No committees. Can attend department meetings if you would like. Must support the Gainesville Theatre Alliance mission.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

No supervisory responsibilities required.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND APTITUDES

Mostly sedentary work. Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment related to teaching. Prolonged periods sitting and standing. Worker is required to have close visual acuity to grade papers, view a computer terminal, and undertake extensive reading. Must have the ability to travel short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials.

Exerting up to 15 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Some repetitive motion.

TITLE IX IMPLICATIONS

Responsible employees must report any possible sexual harassment or discrimination based on sex to the Title IX Coordinator when the employee has information about conduct that may constitute sex discrimination or harassment under Title IX. Employees are encouraged to report these concerns in writing via email. When an employee or a student informs any employee of pregnancy or related conditions, that employee must promptly provide that person with the Title IX Coordinator’s contact information and inform that person that the Title IX Coordinator can coordinate specific actions to prevent sex discrimination and ensure equal access to the university’s educational program or activity.
