Position Summary

This is a specialized, professional and education position directing and coordinating all activities relating to the instruction and performance of the Riverside Military Academy band and other performance groups as relevant to the director's experience. Work involves preparation of band and choral concerts and parades, providing group instruction to cadets, and providing guidance and educational support. Records are maintained on each cadet's progress.

Essential

Functions
  • Responsible for the preparation of the band for all parades and concerts as well as all home football games. This preparation includes selection of music and choreography of marching routines.
  • Responsible for teaching group lessons in music and tracking respective students' progress.
  • Responsible for training the drum majors.
  • Responsible for teaching a music appreciation class or music technology class, and a chorus class.
  • Acts as lead chaperone for all off-campus concerts or other activities, which involve the band.
Other Responsibilities
  • Incumbent is expected to recruit band prospects and recommend scholarships based on music and academic potential.
  • All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education, Experience, Skills Required
  • Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a minimum of a bachelor's degree (master's degree preferred) in music education with instrumental emphasis.
  • Three to five years' experience in both marching and concert bands.
  • Experience in orchestration strongly preferred.
  • This educator must possess recruitment abilities to attract cadets to the band program and the leadership abilities to retain them.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
