Department of PA Studies Part-time (PT) Faculty Minimum Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited PA Program with a master’s degree (doctorate preferred), OR prior experience in academia (PA educational experience preferred)
- If a PA, eligible for Georgia Physician Assistant licensure, OR other licensure as appropriate to qualifications
- If a PA, current NCCPA certification, OR other certification appropriate to qualifications
- At least 3 years of prior clinical experience; other professional experience will be considered
- Prior academic experience preferred
- Ability to function well within a collegial, collaborative work environment
ROLE OF THE PT PRINCIPAL FACULTY:
- Reports to the Chair and Program Director (Chair/PD). Principal faculty (PF) responsibilities are varied and may differ to some degree based upon the needs of the department.
- The PT PF member focuses primarily on teaching/student assessment and ongoing programmatic self‑assessment. Performs all other duties as directed by the Chair/PD, the Dean of the Ivester College of Health Sciences (ICHS), the Brenau University Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, and the Brenau University President or designee.
- Remains current within their academic discipline and participates in professional academic venues.
- Participates in faculty development and research within the mission of the University.
Teaching
- Serve as Instructor for didactic courses and EOR seminars, as assigned.
- Prepare assigned lectures using applicable technology.
- Assume assigned role in test preparation and other methods of evaluating student performance.
- Participate in other teaching modalities, including but not limited to small‑group clinical problem‑solving and clinical skills labs.
- Assess student progress in assigned courses, prepare grades, and notify Directors of Didactic or Clinical Education, and Assistant Program Director (APD) and/or Chair/PD of any at‑risk students.
- Instruct and supervise students in assigned clinical practice labs, simulation activities, and small group sessions.
- Evaluate student performance in didactic and clinical courses (including written and practical exams, Clinical Problem Solving (CPS) and OSCEs) and the program summative evaluation.
- Critique student assignments and provide prompt feedback.
- Assist with student tutorial/remediation sessions.
- Maintain student records and do appropriate follow‑up on all correspondence pertaining to students and course assignments and assessments.
- Keep informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction via professional development activities.
- Bring to faculty meetings for discussion information on any student considered at risk, needing additional monitoring, and/or requiring additional coursework or any other form of remediation to meet program‑defined learning outcomes.
Service
The PT PF member is expected to:
- Attend and appropriately contribute to departmental faculty and staff meetings, annual retreats and accreditation‑related activities.
- Participate in the development, revision, and annual updating of the program’s mission statement and curricular materials.
- Assist in the design, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of curriculum, as assigned.
- Participate in student admissions and interviewing processes, selecting appropriate applicants for admission, as assigned.
- Assist in the evaluation of clinical sites and preceptors, as assigned.
- Assist in ongoing programmatic evaluation, as assigned.
- Assume other duties within the program when needed and feasible.
Community Relations Within and Outside of Brenau
- Serve as a representative of the department within the Brenau community through committee service, as assigned. Attend university-sponsored events and assist in the establishment of collegial relationships with other faculty, staff and administrators.
- Represent the university to the community in a professional and positive way through volunteer service, participation in community events, and professional affiliations.
- Maintain a strong and visible presence in local, state, national and international professional activities.
No supervisory responsibilities required.
