OverviewAn established and growing organization is seeking an experienced Manager of Regulatory & Compliance to lead product safety testing operations and ensure compliance with UL, CSA, IEC, and international safety standards. This role oversees engineering teams, manages lab operations, and plays a key role in standards development and industry collaboration.
This position is ideal for a hands‑on leader with deep technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and a passion for quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, plan, and manage the Regulatory & Compliance Department, including safety testing operations for UL/CSA certification
- Supervise Project Leaders and oversee multiple concurrent testing and compliance projects
- Develop and grow the department by hiring, training, and mentoring engineers, technicians, and administrative staff
- Coordinate procurement, setup, and maintenance of laboratory test equipment
- Ensure implementation and compliance with a Quality Management System (QMS) aligned with ISO 17025
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams, technicians, and headquarters standards groups
- Participate in industry organizations and standards development committees
- Contribute technical expertise to regulatory strategy, audits, and compliance initiatives
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in product safety, compliance, or testing environments
- Strong working knowledge of UL, CSA, and IEC standards
- Experience with safety standards development processes
- Prior people‑management and leadership experience
- Solid understanding of electrical/electronic theory and circuit operation
- Electro‑mechanical aptitude, including equipment operation and troubleshooting
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Business or Management degree or formal leadership training
- Experience working within regulated laboratory or certification environments
- Involvement in industry working groups or standards committees
- Strategic and analytical problem‑solving
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Confident communicator with technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Visionary leadership with the ability to manage change
- High standards for quality, safety, and regulatory compliance
- Ability to thrive in deadline‑driven, multi‑project environments
- Exposure to electronic and mechanical testing equipment and tools
- Moderate noise levels; adherence to safety procedures required
- Occasional lifting (up to 65 lbs) and hands‑on technical work
- Influence product safety and regulatory outcomes
- Collaborate with industry experts and standards organizations
- Lead and develop a skilled technical team
- Long‑term stability in a regulated, mission‑critical function
