Location:
Gainesville, GA (Hybrid)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced licensed Electrical Engineer, P.E. to establish and lead an electrical engineering department within a growing engineering and construction organization.
This position is ideal for an experienced electrical engineer who wants to move toward department leadership, management, delegation, and process development while remaining technically engaged. Prior formal management experience is not required.
The successful candidate will provide technical leadership for commercial and industrial building projects, develop engineering standards and workflows, mentor and eventually manage engineers and designers, and help build a scalable engineering department.
The role covers the full engineering lifecycle-from initial concepts and detailed design through construction support-and offers exposure to engineering, electrical construction, automation, controls, and building technology.
Key Responsibilities
Department Leadership & Growth
Establish and develop the electrical engineering department.
Provide technical leadership while progressively transitioning toward management and delegation.
Manage and delegate work to electrical engineers, designers, and drafters as the department grows.
Develop engineering standards, workflows, quality-control procedures, checklists, and departmental processes.
Mentor engineers and designers and support their professional development.
Establish KPIs and performance metrics to improve department efficiency and project delivery.
Collaborate with marketing and documentation teams on technical content, process documentation, and department initiatives.
Help create a strong organizational structure capable of supporting continued growth.
Electrical Engineering & Design
Design complete electrical systems for commercial and industrial building construction and renovation projects.
Develop power distribution systems, generally at 600 V and below.
Design interior and exterior lighting systems, including emergency lighting.
Design emergency and standby power systems, including generators.
Prepare electrical load calculations, equipment schedules, specifications, and construction documents.
Perform short-circuit, coordination, arc-flash, and SCCR studies.
Coordinate fire alarm and low-voltage system requirements with other engineering disciplines or establish bases of design for bidding.
Review designs for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
Provide technical guidance and constructability input throughout the design process.
Project Delivery & Construction Support
Work with estimating teams to develop design concepts and determine engineering hours required for bid packages.
Compare estimated versus actual engineering hours and identify opportunities for improvement.
Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, fire-protection engineers, project managers, contractors, and field personnel.
Participate in value-engineering and constructability reviews.
Conduct occasional site visits to strengthen design and construction coordination.
Review submittals and shop drawings.
Respond to RFIs and provide construction-support drawings and technical guidance.
Support projects from initial concept through construction completion when required.
Maintain a practical, construction-oriented approach to engineering design.
Technology & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Utilize Revit as a primary design and documentation platform.
Use SKM Power Tools, Power Design Master, and/or comparable industry-standard engineering software for electrical studies and analysis.
Work with Autodesk Construction Cloud / Forma for project coordination and documentation.
Collaborate with an affiliated building-technology/software team to develop Revit- and Excel-based engineering assets, schedules, tools, and supporting materials.
Assist with development of tools and resources supporting building systems and IoT-related solutions; this is not an IoT or automation engineering position.
Coordinate with the automation division on UL 508A industrial control panel development.
Help integrate engineering, construction, and technology workflows to improve project delivery and long-term system maintenance.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
Reciprocal P.E. license acceptable at hire, with the ability to obtain a Georgia P.E. license within 30 days.
