WIC Overview

WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. WIC provides nutrition education, breastfeeding information and support, nutritious foods and referrals to health and other social services at no charge to Georgia families that qualify.

District 2 Public Health serves 13 counties in northeast Georgia, including Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties. One of the fastest growing regions in the state, District 2 includes rural and urban communities with diverse public health challenges.

Nutritionist 1 Responsibilities
  • Under supervision, plans and conducts service or nutritional programs to assist in the promotion of health and control of disease.
  • Provides nutritional assessment, education and counseling to individuals, groups or the public.
  • Serves as a resource on nutrition and dietetics to nurses, health educators or other health care providers in the facility.
  • Uses Motivation Interviewing techniques to conduct client assessments, evaluates nutritional needs and establishes individual SNART goals with clients.
  • Maintains a breastfeeding friendly environment and encourages breastfeeding.
  • Provides individual, family, group or electronic nutrition education per assessment, goals or current class topic.
Nutritionist 2 Responsibilities
  • Under general supervision, plans and conducts service or nutritional programs to assist in the promotion of health and control of disease.
  • Provides nutritional assessment, education and counseling to individuals, groups or the public.
  • Serves as a resource on nutrition and dietetics to nurses, health educators or other health care providers in the facility.
Nutritionist 1 Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in dietetics, human nutrition, foods and nutrition, nutrition education, food systems management or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Verification statement of completion of a didactic program accredited by The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
Nutritionist 2 Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in dietetics, human nutrition, foods and nutrition, nutrition education, food systems management or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Verification statement of completion of a didactic program accredited by The Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
  • Two (2) years of job-related experience providing nutrition care to groups and individuals, or two (2) years of experience at the lower level Dietitian/Nutritionist 1 (HCP
    020) or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with the WIC Program.
  • Bilingual: fluent in writing and speaking Spanish.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented, with a positive and energetic attitude.
  • Experience with Motivational Interviewing.
