Operations Engineer, Materials Engineer
Description
Responsible for calculating, creating, issuing, and coordinating purchase orders of assigned direct materials in support of production requirements. This includes reviewing and appropriately updating material planning fields to ensure proper MRP system functionality. The position will also serve as the communication link between production schedulers, warehousing, and quality assurance with regard to the timely availability of direct materials to support production schedules.
This includes acting on MRP exceptions to support changing production requirements for both Boehringer Ingelheim manufacturing and assigned Contract Manufacturers. This also includes the review of inventory levels, safety stock levels, and contingency concepts to ensure ongoing supply and to identify supply and/or inventory risks. - Responsible for calculating, creating, and issuing purchase orders to the appropriate vendors for all direct materials to support production requirements for both BI Manufacturing and assigned Contract Manufacturers. Also coordinate and communicate with the appropriate production planners about the timely availability of components to support production schedules. Act on all MRP exceptions to support production and inventory control (i.e. expedites, de‑expedites, defers, cancellations).
- Ensure all related raw materials, APIs, packaging components, and/or printed components are available to support production requirements. Communicate with Purchasing, Warehousing, and QA priorities to support component availability as required. Interface with vendors to address any receiving or documentation issues.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of direct materials to support both inventory goals and production requirements. Analyze and manage appropriate inventory control actions with regard to short‑dated or expired raw materials and obsolete packaging.
- Responsible for the analysis and development of appropriate safety stock levels for purchased direct materials.
- Responsible for reviewing and appropriately updating item master/item balance records to ensure proper MRP functionality.
- The Senior Material Planner will provide detailed inventory analysis and recommended actions regarding vendor‑managed inventory programs, recommended supplier changes, and other strategic analysis as required.
- Bachelor's degree, from an accredited institution, in business administration, economics, supply chain or related field and minimum four (4) years of material requirements planning and order processing experience in a manufacturing or similar environment.
- Experience inclusive of minimum two (2) years’ experience with ERP or similar system with emphasis on MRP, purchasing & inventory control inclusive of production planning and order processing experience.
- General knowledge of an Advance Planning System and how it relates to an ERP or similar system.
- Excellent mathematical, data processing and data entry skills.
- Understanding of CGMP production guidelines required.
- APICS Certification strongly preferred.
- Ability to evaluate and interpret data and formulate logical conclusions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to interface with and present to personnel at all levels to achieve results.
- Thorough knowledge of how an ERP System operates regarding the following modules – Material Requirements Planning (OP), Demand Planning (DP), Inventory Management (IL/OL), Product Data Management (PE) and Purchasing (P2P).
