Manufacturing Engineer, Quality Engineering
Position Summary
Assists Engineers with designs, and creates, tests, and manufactures machinery, consumer products, and other equipment.
Responsibilities- Apply mechanical engineering knowledge under the direction of engineering and scientific staff.
- Assist in product tests; create sketches and rough layouts, record data, compute and analyze results, and write reports.
- Prepare layouts and drawings of the assembly process and of parts to be manufactured.
- Estimate labor costs, equipment life, and plant space.
- Review project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, objectives, test equipment, technical problems, and possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts, or rearrangement of parts or subassemblies.
- Draft detailed drawings or sketches for drafting room completion or request parts fabrication by machine, sheet‑metal or wood shops.
- Devises, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies and products.
- Set up and conduct tests of complete units and components under operational conditions to investigate design proposals for improving equipment performance or to obtain data for development, standardization, and quality control, including field testing.
- Analyze test results in relation to design or rated specifications and test objectives; modify or adjust equipment to meet specifications.
- Record test procedures, numerical and graphical data, and recommend changes in product or test method.
- Potentially test and inspect machines and equipment in manufacturing departments or work with engineers to eliminate production problems.
- Maintain inventory of common parts using an internal part‑ordering system.
- Education:
High‑school graduate, associate’s degree in a technical discipline, or equivalent experience. - Experience:
4+ years of quality‑control experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. - Specific knowledge, skills or abilities:
- Read and understand assembly prints.
- Familiarity with MS Office, Outlook and Excel.
- Time‑management skills.
- Ability to use machine tools such as milling, metal lathe, or other equipment.
Physical Requirements
Manufacturing environment. Lift up to 50 lbs. regularly. Requires walking, standing, bending and lifting for long periods of time. Vision abilities required to validate and enter data on computer.
