About the RoleThe Women & Children Resource Pool consists of 3 subset teams known as “Pods” (Labor & Delivery Pod, NICU Pod, and Mother Baby/Pediatric/Step Down NICU Pod). The team works within the Women & Children service areas of Northeast Georgia Healthcare System and will report to our Gainesville, Braselton, and/or Demorest (Habersham) locations. Each “pod” is specialized according to patient population and requires 2 years of RN experience specific to specialty of the pod.
Labor& Delivery Department’s Overview
Gainesville Labor and Delivery Unit: 18 labor/delivery/recovery beds, 8 triage beds, 4 operating rooms and 6 PACU bays.
Braselton Labor and Delivery Unit: 10 labor/delivery/recovery, 2 triage beds, 2 operating rooms and 2 PACU bays.
Habersham LDRP (Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Postpartum) unit: 9 labor/delivery/recovery/post‑partum beds, 1 triage bed, and a 2 bed well baby nursery.
Care provided to women and infants includes, but is not limited to:
- Laboring patients
- Scheduled inductions
- Cesarean sections
- Obstetrical emergencies
- Intrauterine fetal demise / miscarriage
- OB outpatient visits
- Well newborn admission
- Postpartum (mother/baby) couplet care
Treatments are performed under the orders of NGMC credentialed physicians, physician assistants, certified nurse midwives, and nurse practitioners who have privileges to practice at NGMC; and within the policies and procedures of NGMC and the scope of practice for registered nurses as defined by State of Georgia.
Job SummaryCapable clinician with previous specialty experience preferred, focused on expanding knowledge and skills. Consistently provides effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. Seeks as well as provides feedback for improved clinical practice. Assumes a beginning clinical bedside leadership role and seeks mentoring in this process. Participates as a member on PNGC councils and Nursing Quality Teams as appropriate.
Actively participates on Unit Council helping with plans to improve NDNQI nursing sensitive indicators, RN Satisfaction, Employee Engagement, Culture of Safety, and Patient Experience data. Works together with other care team members to recruit and retain an excellent nursing care team. For the new graduate clinical RN: focuses primarily on developing knowledge and skills and showing growth in ability to care for increasingly complex patients.
Responsible for providing direct and safe patient care based on the nursing process, and for coordinating care for assigned patients on a shift to promote the achievement of clinical outcomes. Requires consultation with more experienced clinicians and accepts feedback as a constructive professional development tool.
