About the RoleCapable clinician with prior specialty experience preferred, focused on expanding knowledge and skills. Consistently provides effective direct care as part of the interdisciplinary team to a variety of complex patients. Seeks and provides feedback for improved clinical practice. Assumes a beginning clinical bedside leadership role and seeks mentoring in this process. Professional member of VOICE professional nursing shared governance, providing feedback ticipates as a member on VOICE councils and Nursing Quality Teams as appropriate.
Actively participates on Unit Council to improve NDNQI nursing-sensitive indicators, RN Satisfaction, Employee Engagement, Culture of Safety, and Patient Experience data. Works together with other care team members to recruit and retain an excellent nursing care team. For the new graduate clinical RN, focuses on developing knowledge and skills and showing growth in ability to care for increasingly complex patients.
Responsible for providing direct and safe patient care based on the nursing process and for coordinating care for assigned patients on a shift to promote clinical outcomes. Requires consultation with more experienced clinicians and accepts feedback as a constructive professional development tool.

Associate’s Degree - Minimum Experience:
One year of experience as a professional RN. New graduate RNs or those with less than one year of experience will be referred to the RN Residency Program.

- Demonstrates basic assessment skills, 5 rights of medication administration, manages care for basic patient assignments and progresses to increasingly complex patients, documents nursing process in electronic medical record, follows DNV standards and policies, evaluates patient responses and adjusts plans of care, coordinates interdisciplinary care, uses resources effectively, participates in PI processes, monitors compliance with DNV regulations, coordinates discharge planning, and contributes to a culture of safety.
- Includes patients and families in care, provides effective education appropriate to learning needs, demonstrates appropriate customer service behaviors, and participates in organizational/customer service initiatives.
- Plans patient care based on assessment, prioritizes and manages time, evaluates responses and seeks support to adjust plans, utilizes unit resources to increase understanding of unfamiliar populations, recognizes signs of deteriorating patient and accesses resources, reads nursing research/EBP articles, participates in discharge planning with increasing responsibility, and independently prioritizes patient care.
- Supports unit goals, demonstrates support of shared governance, completes professional development plans, supervises ancillary/support staff, seeks resources through interdisciplinary team, delegates appropriately, serves in unit leadership roles, and acts as Nurse in Charge as necessary fulfilling responsibilities of patient flow, resource matching, and escalation through the chain of command.
