Student Success Coach - Advising and Completion Resources

This position will provide holistic student support for first-time-in-college students, to assist with academic goals, course planning, academic self-efficacy, motivation, financial/time management, and program progression. Establish relationships that fosters opportunities to share areas of growth and areas of concern while supporting the student's academic goals and proactive measures to promote academic persistence. Create student success plans tailored to the student's individual needs, goals, and interests in order to promote academic success and retention by way of ongoing and frequent success coaching sessions via multi-media communication strategies.

Maintain new student case management files and records. This position is security sensitive.

Responsibilities and Duties:

* Meet with students using active listening and assessing strategies. Create student success plans tailored to the student's needs, goals, and interests. Discuss course selections, major selection, and scholarship opportunities.

* Complete weekly and monthly reports that demonstrate progress towards department and institutional goals, including but not limited to: retention, student registration, and student successes.

* Participate in committees such as NCTC standing committees, student organizations, and employee resource groups. Complete trainings and certifications for student success coaching, career development, and mental health. Also attend student success and student affairs conferences.

* Conduct initial eligibility for participation in the program and conduct regular outreach efforts including workshops and class presentations to inform and engage students in student success strategies. Create and lead presentations on important success strategies for students.

* Acquire student work and training experience information to present to appropriate NCTC personnel to assess opportunity for credit for prior learning, assist students with course planning and registration.

* Conduct on-going student case management; assist students in completing written education and career plans focusing on short and long-term goals, and refer students to needed resources- utilizing NCTC coaching methodology and strategies. Work with students that have been placed on academic recovery to boost their semester GPA. Meet with students to discuss factors that have impacted their educational experience.

* Provide and discuss resources to assist students with academic concerns, course difficulties, academic self-efficacy, motivation, financial and time management, and program progression. Establish relationships that foster opportunities to share areas of growth and areas of concern while supporting students' academic goals.

* Provide regular group and/or individual student contact sessions to address student needs and collaborate with campus faculty and retention specialists to support "at-risk" students. Follow up with academic concerns submitted by professors and document interactions with students.

* Gather and maintain all assigned participant case records and documentation in electronic and hard copy data files; including enrollment, assessment, support services, contact information, programs of study, and retention activities utilizing NCTC established policies and procedures.

* Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change based on the needs of the department and the institution.
