Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to assist all nursing students (ADN/LVN) towards successful progress through each level of the Associate Degree Nursing program or the LVN program.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Complete and submit surveys as required.
  • Review LVN or ADN assignments and exams with students to emphasize critical thinking and progressive levels of question difficulty; facilitate student success in theoretical content and clinical skills.
  • Assist students to gain soft skills at the bedsides.
  • Assist students who maintain difficulty with reading materials in smaller individual groups.
  • Utilize educational platforms (self-assessment inventory) to ensure overall comprehension of course materials.
  • Develop psychomotor skills or concepts with students who are not proficient in vital signs, health assessment, etc.
  • Assist students to form an adequate skill foundation that builds on a variety of other clinical skills.
  • Participate on the ADN/LVN advisory committee.
  • Work cooperatively with faculty and students.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with basic nursing skills/procedures and drug calculations.
  • Be knowledgeable regarding the Rules and Regulations of the Nurse Practice Act.
  • Understand and assist students with the Nursing Process and Nursing Care Plans.
  • Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating the teaching-learning process in the classroom and lab setting.
  • Attend departmental meetings and participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating courses for continued development of the nursing curriculum.
  • Maintain accurate and complete course records as required by NCTC, the LVN Program and the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
  • Assist faculty by reviewing students’ abilities to accurately and safely perform basic to more complex skills and procedures.
  • Review assignments and exams with students to emphasize critical thinking and progressive levels of question difficulty.
  • Stay abreast of current trends in nursing practice to improve ability to be an effective information resource.
  • Work within the philosophical framework of NCTC, the Associate Degree Nursing Program and the LVN Nursing Program.
  • Work effectively in groups, with faculty, and with individual students.
  • Be student success oriented.
  • Other duties as assigned; responsibilities and duties may change based on the needs of the department and the institution.
Required Education

Current Texas RN or LVN license and a minimum of one year of recent work experience.

Required Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrate understanding of issues pertaining to teaching, learning, and tutoring in a community college setting.
  • Experience using MS Office software including Excel; knowledge of data tracking/analysis methods; ability to communicate effectively with faculty, administration, students, and staff.
Preferred Skills & Abilities Required Experience
  • Experience in an ADN/LVN program or other setting related to nursing education or health science education.
  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in Texas, plus one year of experience.
  • Previous teaching experience.
Preferred Experience
  • Demonstrated previous work experience with nursing students in a hospital setting or assigned as a preceptor for nursing students (preferred)
  • Experience with distance and/or hybrid education (preferred)
  • Previous teaching experience in a community college or higher education setting (preferred)
  • Three years practicing as an RN, plus three years of experience in an acute care area (preferred)
