Position SummaryTeaching specialized sociology courses on campus and online. Contributing to course design, student advising, and continuous professional development.
Responsibilities and Duties- Treat students and colleagues with respect.
- Active involvement in institutional effectiveness: student learning outcomes, program level outcomes, and marketable skill achievement.
- Focus teaching and outreach efforts on student success.
- Meet class as scheduled; follow departmental policy for class cancellations.
- Maintain appropriate records of grades/attendance and submit required reports on time.
- Post office hours and be available to students during that time.
- Make an appropriate syllabus available to students and Division Chair in a timely manner.
- Be well organized and prepared for each class; maintain college level rigor and require a high level of academic excellence from students.
- Use an appropriate variety of instructional methods to enhance learning.
- Develop appropriate tests, projects, and other evaluation activities for courses taught.
- Consider Student Course Evaluations in the improvement of instruction.
- Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with students.
- Provide appropriate feedback on student assignments.
- Encourage an atmosphere in which students may ask questions, offer opinions, and express ideas.
- Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with colleagues and other college personnel.
- Participate in departmental meetings and activities.
- Serve on college committees.
- Attend and participate in college in‑service workshops and activities.
- Keep abreast of developments in the subject area and in instructional techniques.
- Share ideas and materials related to the teaching field and/or pedagogy with colleagues.
- Participate in Peer Classroom Observation Program.
- Advises students regarding class scheduling, degree planning, and gives appropriate career advising.
- Other duties as assigned; responsibilities and duties may change based on departmental and institutional needs.
Master’s Degree in Sociology or Master’s degree and at least 18 graduate hours in Sociology.
Required Skills & Abilities- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Exhibition of respect and professionalism in a spirit of collegiality.
- Ability to promote an effective environment for learning in lecture and lab experiences.
Knowledge of online delivery methods, principles and techniques.
Preferred Experience4+ years related work experience.
Community College and/or Public School teaching experience preferred.
Online curriculum development and online teaching experience.
