Job Summary
Provides direct and indirect patient care in the outpatient setting. Communicates with physicians, supervisor, and co‑workers as appropriate about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Performs general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision.
Float coverage to PACU with call.
Summary of Essential Job Functions- Perform a head‑to‑toe assessment on all patients and reassess per policy, including pediatric, adolescent, geriatric and the general patient population.
- Assess and reassess pain, utilize appropriate pain management techniques, and educate the patient and family regarding pain management.
- Revise the plan of care in response to the patient’s treatment response and evaluate overall daily effectiveness.
- Perform waived testing (point‑of‑care testing, glucometers) per Clinical Laboratory’s and resident care unit’s policies and procedures.
- Interpret results of waived tests and take appropriate action.
- Provide patient care considering the standard of care specific to the patient’s age.
- Administer medications correctly based on age and clinical condition and follow the six medication rights to reduce medication errors.
- Formulate a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs, evaluate effectiveness, and involve family as appropriate.
- Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
- Provide treatments and services appropriate to the level of licensure.
- Apply knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan and provide age‑appropriate care, interpreting patient data to identify specific needs.
- Maintain patient safety, reducing the likelihood of medical errors, and support a culture of quality and safety.
- Consult other departments to provide an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
- Communicate clearly with the Nurse Director/Supervisor, co‑workers, and physicians.
- Identify and address psychosocial needs of patients and families; communicate with Social Services regarding hospital and post‑discharge needs.
- Ensure documentation meets current standards and policies.
- Operate and manage equipment safely and correctly.
- Coordinate and supervise patient care as necessary.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.

- Demonstrates ability to work effectively as a team member, supporting and assisting the team
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Current RN license in the State of Texas
- Current BLS Certification
- ACLS Certification within 90 days of hire
- PALS Certification within 90 days of hire
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
- Additional languages a plus
- Lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Assist with patients or equipment up to 500 lbs.
- Stand and walk 75% of shift on hard surfaces.
- Sit, bend, stoop, and reach above head.
