Promotes optimal trauma and stroke care through the organization, development, and maintenance of the clinical and operational components of trauma and stroke service in accordance with guidelines from. Works closely with the hospital’s medical staff, administrators, department leaders, and nursing personnel to coordinate all aspects of trauma and stroke care to patients of all ages including: clinical activities, professional and public education, research activities, quality assurance activities, and administrative functions.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Participates in planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating the trauma and stroke programs.
- Submits required data to the regulatory agencies as requested.
- Demonstrates individual accountability for clinical practice and services as a clinical resource by participating in providing trauma and stroke care.
- Coordinates nursing care aspects of trauma, stroke, resuscitation protocols setting priorities for care.
- Reviews the records and plan of care for all trauma and stroke patients to ensure protocols are initiated and followed.
- Assists staff in problem-solving related to the care of trauma and stroke patients.
- Maintains current knowledge of trauma and stroke care.
- Supervises orientation for all new trauma and stroke team members.
- Facilitates Trauma/Stroke Committee with multidisciplinary members.
- Participates with community wide trauma and stroke education programs for both pre-hospital care providers and the general public.
- Integrates the North Texas Medical Center values of honesty, excellence, accountability, respect, and teamwork into each of the responsibilities of this position and daily communication with all customers, team members and co-workers.
- Adheres to and is responsible for the safety standards of North Texas Medical Center, including the completion of the mandatory organizational safety standards on an annual basis.

This position requires knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status. Includes being able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to the patient's age-specific needs. - This position actively maintains confidentiality for patients and their families, as outlined in the North Texas Medical Center Patient Confidentiality Policy and shows the same level of respect for every Associate within North Texas Medical Center.
- Stays up to date on industry best practices and maintains a network of professionals to exchange ideas and benchmark best practices.
- Assists other team members as needed and performs other duties as assigned.
BASIC SKILLS
- Basic computer skills
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Registered Nurse/Texas Licensure – required.
- 2-3 years clinical nursing experience – required.
- Physical ability to perform functional requirements as detailed.
- BLS - required
- TNCC – within 90 days
- ACLS – within 90 days
- PALS – within 90 days
- BSN – preferred.
- SCRN - preferred
- CEN, ENPC, ATLS - preferred
- Previous nursing management or education experience preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
- Additional languages a plus
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
- May be required to assist with patients or equipment up to 500 lbs.
- Ability to push, pull, lift, bend, kneel twist and reach above shoulder level.
