Manufacturing Quality Engineer II

Job Summary

GAF is searching for a Quality Engineer who will assist with creating and maintaining the quality culture at the plant level. The Quality Engineer will be responsible for managing plant calibration, COA, raw material and finished goods records, working with process experts to reduce variation on finished goods and raw materials, and assisting with meeting operational and financial business objectives.

• Collaborate with Operations and process engineering to optimize finished good performance through formulation changes and process changes.
• Manage quality data and testing frequency to understand, improve, and define quality control through the process and products.
• Perform routine Measurement System Analysis (MSA) for the plant and take action based on testing results.
• Lead the execution of Quality Improvement projects using standard PI tools such as MVT/DOE and Kepner‑Tregoe PSDM.
• Execute approved capital improvements, coordinating with managers on timelines, budget, and resources.
• Update and review plant‑specific SOPs and the GAF ISO Quality manual.
• Retrain on quality documentation such as SFP, PCD, TFP, SOP, and Calibration documents per business‑unit training.
• Train production personnel on Statistical Quality Control (SQC) and interpret SQC charting as it relates to product variations.
• Manage Calibration, Audit, Finished Goods, COA records, and raw material batch tracking.
• Conduct audits with certifying partners and internally, creating action plans based on audit results.
• Support product improvement and new product development efforts.
• Define and develop testing protocols for finished product performance or raw material performance.
• Conduct Vendor CAPA analysis on raw materials, collaborating with procurement, supply chain, and suppliers to resolve quality issues.
• Communicate findings to the plant and conduct internal CAPAs with process‑engineer support.
• Develop and perform warehouse audits periodically.
• Work closely with QA and other quality engineers to standardize best practices.
• Manage the plant’s red‑tag system, monitor claims, and report monthly metrics.
• Conduct residential jobsite visits when required regarding potential product performance issues.
• Perform all other duties assigned by Supervisor/Management.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in engineering/STEM.
• 5+ years of experience in a Quality/Mfg role (equivalent).
• 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• 3+ years of experience in a quality role.
• Knowledge of engineering fundamentals including root cause analysis, statistical process control, lean/agile approaches, and structured problem solving.
• Ability to translate technical data into a suitable format for personnel.
• Intermediate skills in process hazard analysis and process safety management.
• Demonstrated focus on continuous improvement.
• Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry, typing, and proofreading.

• Stationary position, move/traverse, transport/lifting, pressing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, communication.
• Travel requirements: 20%.

$76,000 – $104,500 (exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses; compensation determined by location, experience, education, and qualifications).
