Performs moderately complex (journey-level) security enforcement work in a residential environment and monitors resident behavior. Provides supervision and direct care for youth in a residential correctional facility during scheduled hours, including youth sleeping hours (training weeks exempt). Helps youth achieve progress in learning and applying methods to identify and manage reactions to stress and trauma, promoting socially appropriate responses. Uses appropriate intervention methods in response to behavioral issues to aid learning and corrective behavior, conducts safety and welfare checks, and enforces security measures when youth, staff, or others are in danger.

Maintains healthy relationships and boundaries with youth, recognizing progress and good choices.

Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for initiative and independent judgment. May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week.

• Ensure safety by following all night watch and cell check procedures.
• Engage in competency‑based training on techniques needed to coach youth under the Texas Model of trauma‑informed corrections.
• Hold youth accountable in ways that fit the level of behavior, helping them learn socially acceptable responses.
• Use good judgment to determine when safety is at risk and higher levels of intervention are required.
• Practice and model appropriate self‑regulation skills, remaining calm during stress and crisis.
• Coach youth on resolving conflict with other youth and staff as appropriate.
• Observe and report significant behavioral and treatment‑related conditions to staff.
• Pass down information to the day shift about overnight incidents.
• Restrain and secure aggressive youth when necessary and participate in debriefing conversations.
• Maintain security of buildings, grounds, and posts; intervene during emergencies or altercations.
• Conduct searches for contraband, health/safety hazards, and perform room, property, pat, and strip searches as required.
• Report safety hazards and correct hazards when possible.
• Complete required documentation for accidents or injuries within specified time frames.
• Attend work on a regular and predictable schedule per agency attendance and leave policies.
• Actively embody and support the Texas Model by demonstrating its core values daily.

• At least 21 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.

• Experience supervising or providing rehabilitation/treatment services to youth or adults in a treatment program, correctional program, or residential setting (e.g., correctional officer, juvenile detention officer, case manager, counselor, probation officer, parole officer).

• One year of appropriate experience may substitute for one year of college (30 course hours) on a year‑for‑year basis.
• Completed undergraduate course hours may substitute for up to four years of experience on a basis of 30 course hours per year of experience.
• Completed graduate course hours may substitute for up to two years of experience on a basis of 12 graduate course hours per year of experience.
• Experience requirements may be satisfied by the prorated part‑time equivalent.
• All degrees and course hours must be from an accredited institution.
