Job SummaryThis position plans, implements, and evaluates instructional programs for students in grades K‑5, with a focus on 1st grade. Responsibilities include managing student behavior, assessing student achievement, modifying instruction, and handling classroom and school‑wide duties as required.
Essential Responsibilities- Implement an instructional program that differentiates instruction to meet student needs.
- Plan and deliver instruction in accordance with Prince William County Curriculum documents.
- Assess student abilities and align instruction with desired educational goals and standards.
- Plan instructional and learning strategies, including classroom organization and material selection.
- Manage classroom behavior to maintain a conducive learning environment and participate in behavior management on school grounds.
- Cooperate with school staff in planning and evaluating program effectiveness.
- Request assistance from resource personnel and create appropriate learning environments for all students.
- Participate in the division’s professional development program.
- Coordinate instructional activities with other professional staff to enhance learning opportunities.
- Follow ethical standards of the teaching profession.
- Support parent‑teacher or parent‑student organizations and promote partnerships.
- Enforce policies and regulations established by the Prince William County School Board.
- Supervise pupil activities during and after school hours.
- Communicate effectively through written communication and reports.
- Adhere to county disciplinary procedures.
- Comply with all other duties as assigned by the principal or designated administrator.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
- Eligible for Virginia Teacher Certification Program or licensure; or hold a collegiate professional, post graduate professional, or appropriate vocational license with endorsement(s) required for teaching assignments.

Valid automobile operator’s license if assigned off‑site tasks or itinerant responsibilities. - Knowledge of content, curriculum, and methods for grade levels or instructional specialties.
- Understanding of child growth and development.
- Familiarity with Prince William County Public Schools curricula and public school mission, goals, and organization.
- Ability to implement research‑based instruction and current educational theory.
- Ability to plan and implement lessons using the Standards‑Based Instructional Planning Process.
- Proficiency in using multimedia and computer technology.
- Strong oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- For music instruction: ability to demonstrate singing/choral techniques, instrument proficiency, and assessment of pitch and tone quality.
- For visual art instruction: a personal portfolio demonstrating artistic ability and experience across media.
The classroom environment is indoor, with routine noise and occasional computer exposure. The teacher works regularly during school hours and may provide instruction in reading or technology labs. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
