Structural Engineer (Project Manager)
We are seeking a seasoned Structural Engineer (Project Manager) to lead multi-disciplinary structural design projects from concept through construction. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in structural engineering with proven project management experience to deliver safe, efficient, code-compliant designs on schedule and on budget. This role will manage project teams, coordinate with clients and consultants, oversee quality control, and ensure successful project delivery while mentoring junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage structural engineering projects from proposal and scope development through design, permitting, and construction administration.
- Serve as the primary client and consultant contact; develop and maintain strong client relationships and manage client expectations.
- Prepare, review and approve structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and design documents to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Develop and maintain project budgets, schedules, and resource plans; monitor progress and adjust to meet milestones and financial targets.
- Coordinate and collaborate with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve design and constructability issues.
- Oversee QA/QC processes including peer reviews, design checks, and documentation standards to ensure deliverables meet company and industry standards.
- Provide construction support including submittal review, RFI responses, site visits, and coordination during construction to ensure design intent is realized.
- Mentor and supervise junior structural engineers and drafters; provide technical guidance, career development, and performance feedback.
- Manage risk by identifying technical, schedule, and budgetary issues early and implementing mitigation strategies.
- Promote best practices in structural engineering and project management, and contribute to business development activities including proposals, presentations, and client pursuit.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Civil or Structural Engineering;
Masters degree preferred. - Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred or ability to obtain PE in the projects jurisdiction.
- Minimum 7+ years of structural engineering experience with a significant portion in project management or lead engineering roles.
- Proven experience as a Project Manager responsible for project management activities (scope, schedule, budget, resource allocation, client communications).
- Demonstrated structural engineering expertise across building and/or infrastructure projects, including design of concrete, steel, timber, and/or masonry systems.
- Proficient with structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, SAP
2000, RISA, STAAD, or similar, and with drawing tools like AutoCAD and Revit. - Thorough knowledge of building codes and standards (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, etc.) and permitting processes.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and present technical information to clients and stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects concurrently under tight deadlines.
- Project Management certification (PMP) or formal project management training is a plus. Experience with business development and client-facing roles is desirable.
