We are seeking a highly skilled, hands‑on Chief Communications Officer (CCO) to lead and execute all communications, publishing, digital media, and branding initiatives for our association clients.
This is not a purely strategic leadership role. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable developing communications strategy and personally creating, editing, designing, publishing, and managing content across multiple platforms.
Position SummaryThe Chief Communications Officer serves as the senior communications professional for two trade associations and acts as Editor-in-Chief for all association publications. This individual will oversee content development, magazine production, membership directories, website management, digital communications, social media strategy and brand consistency.
The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and editor with advanced Adobe InDesign and Word Press skills and a proven ability to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining high editorial standards.
Key Responsibilities Editorial Leadership- Serve as Editor-in-Chief for association magazines, newsletters, directories and other publications.
- Develop editorial calendars and content strategies.
- Write, edit, proofread and manage content from contributors and industry experts.
- Ensure editorial quality, accuracy and consistency across all publications.
- Coordinate publication production schedules and vendor relationships.
- Design and produce magazines, membership directories, event books and marketing collateral.
- Manage publication layout and production using Adobe InDesign.
- Oversee print and digital distribution.
- Manage and continuously improve association websites.
- Create, update, and maintain website content using Word Press.
- Monitor website performance and recommend enhancements to improve user experience and member engagement.
- Coordinate email marketing campaigns and digital communications initiatives.
- Develop and implement social media strategies for both associations.
- Create engaging content across social media platforms.
- Monitor analytics and adjust strategies to increase reach and engagement.
- Support membership recruitment, retention, events and sponsorship initiatives through strategic communications.
- Develop comprehensive communications plans aligned with association goals.
- Maintain brand consistency across all channels and materials.
- Advise association leadership on communications opportunities and best practices.
- Identify new communication tools and technologies to enhance member engagement.
- Elevate the quality and impact of association publications.
- Enhance member engagement through compelling content and digital communications.
- Modernize and improve website performance and user experience.
- Strengthen social media presence and audience growth.
- Deliver high-quality communications products on time and within budget.
- Word Press: 5+ years (Required)
- Adobe InDesign: 5+ years (Required)
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, English or related field.
- 7+ years of communications, publishing, editorial or association management experience.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign.
- Strong Word Press website management experience.
- Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Experience managing multiple publications and content channels simultaneously.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.
- Experience working with trade associations, professional societies, nonprofits or membership organizations.
- Familiarity with email marketing platforms and analytics tools.
- Knowledge of SEO and digital content strategy.
- Experience managing print vendors and publication production processes.
- Graphic design capabilities beyond InDesign.
- Experience with association management systems (AMS) and member databases.
