Overview

Industrial Field Service Plant Mechanic – 2500034L. Vulcan Materials Company is the nation’s largest producer of construction aggregates and a major producer of aggregates-based construction materials including asphalt and ready-mixed concrete. This role supports high-volume Ready-Mix concrete operations in the Southwest DC area, acting as the mechanical backbone of multiple critical production facilities. It is a mobile field role offering autonomy and the opportunity to be the expert on mechanical health across multiple sites.

Responsibilities
  • Precision Rotating Equipment Service: Execute preventive maintenance and perform complex repairs on screw conveyors, mixer drums, and material pumps. Include bearing replacement, shaft alignment, belt/chain tensioning, and seal installation on rotating machinery.
  • Batch Plant System Repair: Troubleshoot, repair, and replace components integral to the batching process, including material gates, pneumatic actuators, air compressors, feeders, and scales.
  • Heavy Component Rebuilds: Conduct scheduled maintenance and critical failure rebuilds on major processing equipment, including servicing agitator blades in mixers, wear-part replacement in screw conveyor troughs, and overhauling large water/slurry pumps.
  • Fabrication and Structural Repair: Independently perform heavy-duty field welding (SMAW and/or GMAW) to repair and reinforce structural components such as hoppers, silos, chutes, and plant framing, ensuring safety and quality standards are met.
  • Advanced Troubleshooting: Use hydraulic and pneumatic schematics to diagnose and repair control systems for flow gates, valves, and material delivery components. A basic understanding of electrical controls and safety procedures is required to work with electrical teams.
  • Predictive Maintenance (PdM): Implement lubrication schedules, track component wear, and use systematic inspection techniques to anticipate and prevent equipment failures.
  • Safety Leadership: Manage LOTO procedures and uphold OSHA and company safety standards on every job site.
  • Other Responsibilities: Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in Ready-Mix Concrete, asphalt, cement, or high-volume material handling environments.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Proven expertise in industrial mechanical repair, welding/fabrication, heavy hydraulics, and power transmission systems.
  • Autonomy: Disciplined self-starter capable of managing a repair schedule across multiple locations with minimal supervision.
  • Certification (Preferred): Relevant welding or industrial maintenance/millwright certifications.
  • Physical Ability: Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoors in all weather; able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Hourly Range: The hourly range for this role is $23.88 – $35.00. This range excludes discretionary bonuses or equity. Compensation is based on skills, experience, and market data.

Company Vehicle: Use of a fully-equipped service truck for all site travel.
