FY26 TPT Para educator Level II, Special Education Itinerant, Rosemont ES, 6 hours (26002OZ) SUMMARY
At the direction of the principal, this para educator performs a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well‑being to support students with Individualized Education Programs (IEP). The para educator may participate with students in learning activities off-school and assist them with academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical needs. Work is focused on facilitating the student mastery of grade-level curriculum or Alternate Academic Achievement Standards and managing behaviors that impact accessing the curriculum.
Supported students may attend general education classes or specialized settings, and may be pulled out for individualized or small-group instruction. The position also includes instructional, classroom‑management, and related clerical supports for teachers and staff.
Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects or equipment up to 50 pounds. Outside duty may be required. Must accommodate flexible scheduling, change of location, and teacher absences. May need specific training.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES- Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and policies of Montgomery County Public Schools.
- Ability to assist with the implementation of the instructional program and monitor appropriate student behavior.
- Patient behavior; effective working with children, young adults, and staff.
- Follow written and verbal instructions and perform required tasks.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and read/write/speak English.
- Support students with special needs.
- Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software (Google Workspace, MS Office, web-based tools).
- Ability to learn the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
- 1. Associate's degree, required. Bachelor's degree preferred. College coursework should include a minimum of nine credit-hours related to education such as behavior management, instructional strategies.
- 1 year of experience working with students in structured educational settings preferred. If no related coursework, then 2-4 years of experience with children and adolescents in a structured setting (daycare, preschool, etc.) required.
- OR2. At least 48 college credits and 2 years of experience in a structured setting such as a daycare, preschool, adult day program, after-school program, or school/non-school based department.
- OR3. Two years of experience in a structured setting such as a daycare, preschool, adult day program, after-school program, or extended day. Successful completion of the Para Pro Assessment with a qualifying score of 455 or higher is required.
- OR4. Any combination of applicable education, training, and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered.
