Teacher, Spanish, Department Chair – Forest Oak MS (FY27, 1.0 FTE)

Job Specific Information

Start time 7:45–3:15 pm;
Teach 5 sections of Spanish. This position also has a leadership component: serving as World Languages Department Chair. The work year for department chairpersons in departments of two or more unit members shall not exceed 197 duty days, with one day prior to the day teachers report for duty in the fall and one day after the close of the school year in June.

The selected candidate will attend RT/CS summer meetings and monthly meetings throughout the school year. Wage range: $64,591–$131,472 based on education and experience. Benefits:

Under the direction of the middle school principal, plans and provides appropriate learning experiences for adolescent students. Works with interdisciplinary teams to create a school culture conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of adolescents to ensure success for every student. Supervises middle school students in a variety of school-related settings. Communicates and collaborates with students, staff, parents, and community.

Develops, selects, and differentiates instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all middle school students. Maintains appropriate records, follows required procedures and practices, and uses data analysis to monitor student achievement. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities. Physical demands are as required by the duties and responsibilities of the job. Special requirements include attending school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Knowledge of adolescent development, content expertise, and MCPS curriculum and policies. Commitment to the belief that all students can learn, characterized by high content and high expectations for all learners. Ability to use a variety of instructional and behavioral management strategies appropriate to the needs of middle school adolescents, integrating reading, writing, math, and technology across content areas. Ability to self-reflect on instructional practices and personal interactions for continuous improvement.

Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office, and school-based staff, students, parents, and community, demonstrating organizational agility. Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills. Commitment to serving as an advocate, role model, and supporter of diversity (race, ethnicity, gender, developmental differences, learning styles, exceptionalities). Knowledge and application of the six performance standards established for MCPS Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS) and Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of education from an accredited college or university. State certification meeting Maryland educational requirements in appropriate field of education.
