Para educator Level II – Special Education Itinerant (LAD)
Location: Lakelands Park Middle School, Gaithersburg
Schedule: Full‑time, .875 (70 hours bi‑weekly) – 7 hrs/day, 10 months.
Position Details: 7 hrs/day, 10 months; grade 15, progress to grade 16 after successful probation.
Wage Range: $25.40 – $38.15 per hour, based on years of service.
Responsibilities:
- Support students with IEPs, including academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical needs.
- Assist with instructional activities in both general and specialized settings; may travel off campus for learning activities.
- Help students master grade‑level curriculum or Alternate Academic Achievement Standards.
- Manage behaviors that impact student access to curriculum.
- Provide instructional and classroom management support to teachers and staff.
- Perform related clerical tasks in all classrooms or learning environments.
- Continue planned instructional activities during a teacher's temporary absence.
- Adapt to flexible scheduling, changing location or program as required.
- Execute specific training as needed for the role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and MCPS policies.
- Ability to assist with implementation of instructional program and monitor student behavior.
- Strong patience, teamwork, verbal and written communication in English.
- Support students with special needs.
- Competency with Google Workspace, MS Office, and web‑based instructional tools.
- Ability to learn and meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Education, Training, and Experience (order of preference):
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Coursework: minimum nine credit hours in education fields such as behavior management, instructional strategies.
No certificate or license requirements.
Physical & Special Requirements:
- Frequent bending, walking, and lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent overtime or night work may be required; outside duty required.
- Must accommodate flexible scheduling and change of location/program.
