Summary Description Of Classification
At the direction of the principal, this para educator promotes student learning and well‑being for diploma‑bound students. The work focuses on facilitating mastery of grade‑level or above curriculum, supporting students in general‑education classrooms and providing individualized or small‑group reinforcement. The para educator also provides instructional and classroom‑management support and related clerical tasks to assist teachers and other staff in all learning environments.
All new para educators begin at grade 13 and may advance to grade 14 after completing a six‑month probationary period and required training hours.
Physical Demands: Frequent bending, walking, and lifting objects up to 50 pounds.
Special Requirements: Outside duty may be required; flexible scheduling and location changes must be accommodated.
Under the direction of the principal, the Math Para educator delivers targeted, evidence‑based math interventions to students in Grades 3–5 in a Title I school. The position accelerates math development, closes achievement gaps, and builds core mathematical proficiency. Responsibilities include math progress monitoring, preparing instructional materials, supporting classroom management during math blocks, and serving as a lunch aide for one hour daily.
Strict Requirements: Associate’s degree or passing the Para Pro Assessment; strong comfort with elementary math concepts, data‑driven support, and experience working with upper‑elementary students.

Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies and practices applicable to the assignment, and instructional goals and policies of Montgomery County Public Schools. Ability to assist with implementation of the instructional program, monitor and ensure appropriate student behavior, exhibit patience, work effectively with children, young adults, and staff, follow written and verbal instructions, perform required tasks, communicate effectively in writing and verbally, read/write/speak English, and support students with special needs.
Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software such as Google Workspace, MS Office, and web‑based instructional tools. Knowledge of and the ability to quickly learn and meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
Bachelor’s degree preferred. College coursework must include at least nine credit‑hours in education-related subjects such as behavior management and instructional strategies. One year of experience with students in structured educational situations is preferred; otherwise two to four years of experience with children and adolescents in a structured setting such as a daycare, preschool, etc., is required.
