Job Description - FY27:
Teacher, Content Specialist, Social Studies, Forest Oak MS, 1.0 FTE (26004KP). Forest Oak Middle School, a Title I community school in Gaithersburg, MD, seeks a Social Studies Content Specialist to lead instructional excellence across Grades 6 through 8. The specialist will coach teachers, facilitate collaborative planning, analyze student data, and align instruction to the Maryland Social Studies Standards with a focus on effortful thinking and academic language in speaking and writing.
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong content knowledge, experience supporting Emergent Multilingual Learners, and familiarity with MSTAR (formerly MCAP) Social Studies expectations. Candidates should be committed to equity, systemic improvement, and building teacher capacity in a diverse school community.

Responsibilities- Lead and support the middle school Social Studies department across Grades 6–8.
- Coach teachers, facilitate collaborative planning, and analyze student achievement data to inform instruction.
- Align instruction to the Maryland Social Studies Standards with a focus on effortful thinking and academic language in speaking and writing.
- Support Emergent Multilingual Learners and maintain familiarity with MSTAR/MCAP expectations.
- Promote equity, systemic improvement, and the building of teacher capacity in a diverse school community.
- Thorough knowledge of curriculum, assessment, and instruction.
- Understanding of the middle school learner and ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and administrators.
- Exemplary teaching skills with strong facilitation, organizational, and supervisory abilities.
- Ability to provide professional development and actionable feedback to teachers.
- Strong technology skills and the ability to analyze formative and summative data.
- Excellent oral and written communication and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge and application of the six performance standards of the MCPS Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS).
- Holds, from an accredited institution, a master’s degree or its equivalent in semester hours of credit, or is within one year of fulfilling this requirement.
- Completion of OAT 1 by the beginning of the second year of the assignment and OAT 2 by the end of the second year in assignment.
- Minimum of three years of outstanding teaching experience, with one year in MCPS preferred; appropriate middle school teaching experience within department subject fields.
- Demonstrates skill in working effectively with people; other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Certificate/License:
Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for the appropriate content area.
