In this role you will develop mechanical systems for new nuclear power plant designs or modifications to operating nuclear power plants, collaborating with design engineering execution teams across the US and performing all aspects of mechanical system design engineering and analysis for designated systems.
Key Responsibilities- Continue developing knowledge and provide guidance on design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies; give technical direction to others regarding projects and disciplines.
- Independently apply knowledge and comply with the B&V quality program for assigned tasks; ensure compliance and support continuous improvement and change‑management efforts.
- Prepare complex engineering deliverables for large or multiple projects and conduct research to develop recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
- Perform complex engineering calculations using standard methods; manage assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Delegate tasks to lower‑level team members and review their engineering work.
- Coordinate with internal/external team members on moderately complex projects and identify key client interests and drivers.
- Support business development activities and offer additional services to clients as needed.
- Act as a technical specialist, providing consultation and guidance in a specific practice area; design complete projects of moderate scope or support multiple projects addressing complex technical challenges.
- Mentor lower‑level professionals, assist with performance management, and participate in career planning and learning initiatives.
- Assist with resource‑management strategy, including engineering resources for single‑discipline groups; handle administrative responsibilities such as policy implementation, timesheet approval, and expense report review.
- Experience in nuclear power plant system design.
- Knowledge of condensate and feedwater, cooling water (closed‑cycle), high‑/intermediate‑/low‑pressure steam systems, and instrument/service air systems.
- Experience with demineralized water supply, make‑up systems, service and potable water supply systems.
- Proficiency in P&t and calculations such as pipe sizing, pipe thickness, pump sizing, control valve sizing, heat‑exchanger sizing, and tank sizing.
- Preparation of technical specifications for mechanical equipment, piping, and valves.
- Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations related to nuclear power plants.
- Strong written technical communication skills.
- Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable codes for mechanical engineering design of nuclear power plants.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience; minimum of 5 years related work experience.
Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screening, motor vehicle record).
Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer‑of‑record (EOR) requirements for BV projects where applicable.
U.S. citizenship is required for work with U.S. federal government projects.
Work Environment and Schedule- Typical office environment with prolonged computer use; requires focus and attention to detail.
- Possible physical tasks during site visits (crouching, grasping, standing/walking).
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion.
- May require up to 20% travel.
