DescriptionThe Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) is the owner and operator of BWI Thurgood Marshall and Martin State Airports, serving over 27 million passengers annually. We are currently recruiting for a Facility Maintenance Technician I in the Office of Facilities Maintenance and Office of Grounds Maintenance within the Division of BWI Operations and Maintenance at Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport).
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and make repairs as needed.
- Assist Skills Tradesmen and Aviation High Voltage Electrical Technicians with various projects.
- Paint runways and taxiways, cut grass, and repair asphalt and concrete.
- Operate snow removal equipment to ensure safe operation of the airfield during inclement weather.
This is an emergency‑essential position requiring availability during weather, operational, and disaster emergency conditions. Employees must be available to work any shift, day or night, as required. The role may involve physically demanding tasks, outdoor work in all weather, high elevations, cramped quarters, and handling objects weighing over 50 pounds.
LocationBWI Marshall Airport, Anne Arundel County, MD.
Licenses & Certifications- Must possess a Class C motor vehicle operator’s license valid in Maryland.
- During the probationary period, must obtain and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and US DOT Medical Card (or MVA‑issued waiver) every two years.
- Must meet all Department of Budget and Management policies for operation of state‑owned vehicles.
- Must obtain an MAA Airfield Operators Permit in accordance with the Code of Maryland Regulations before permanent appointment.
- Ability to perform maintenance on high structures and in cramped quarters, tunnels, underground and in buildings.
- Willingness and availability for duty at any hour, day or night, including being on call 24 hours a day with reliable communication link at own expense.
- Potential exposure to hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead‑based paint or chromium; may require medical testing, hazardous materials training, and respirator use.
- Essential employee status; may be required to sign and agree to all policies and procedures relating to Essential Employee status.
- Subject to pre‑employment and substance abuse drug testing per Maryland regulations.
- Completion of the eighth grade.
- None required.
- U.S. Armed Forces military service experience may be substituted for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
