Job DescriptionAECOM is actively growing the East Region Environmental Planning & Permitting (EPP) practice and seeks an Environmental Project Manager within the Mid‑Atlantic EPP Department with expertise in Maryland and Virginia. The successful candidate will manage a team, oversee environmental permitting and utility siting projects for energy and other private‑sector clients, and work with AECOM EPP specialists across the U.S.
Responsibilities- Develop, manage, and administer all staff and projects carried out by those directly reporting to this position.
- Scope, schedule, and budget consulting projects and apply AECOM’s project management systems and software.
- Serve as a mentor to junior and mid‑level staff.
- Perform client visits, field activities, and overnight travel as required.
- Coordinate and direct project field and data collection efforts.
- Develop business strategy and tactics; prepare high‑quality proposals and deliverables.
- Serve as an interface with clients and regulatory personnel on complex projects and business development initiatives.
- Enforce a culture of high‑quality work and Health & Safety within the team.
- Provide technical support to the EPP Department and support inter‑disciplinary business development activities.
- Collaborate with other AECOM offices, practices, and business lines.
Minimum Qualifications
- BA/BS in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, Wetlands Management, or an earth‑science related field.
- 8+ years of experience managing projects and teams to scope, schedule, and budget.
- Valid driver’s license; must pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- 10+ years of industry experience, preferably with energy and other private‑sector clients providing environmental assessment and permitting compliance support, including FERC requirements.
- Existing client relationships with the ability to generate new work.
- Experience with regulator and stakeholder negotiations.
- Experience in Maryland, Virginia, and surrounding Mid‑Atlantic states.
- Thorough working knowledge of CWA, ESA, NHPA, NEPA, and other federal, state, and local regulations.
- Knowledge of FERC requirements and experience with preparing FERC Section 7(c) resource reports and pre‑filing.
- Experience managing project schedules and budgets, preparing proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and change orders.
- PMP or other project management certification is a plus; completion of AECOM Project Management Certification required.
- Leadership of teams performing wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species studies, environmental permitting support, and related assessments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage interdisciplinary teams, workloads, and client interfaces.
- High degree of self‑motivation, independent and collaborative work style, and exceptional organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills (writing sample required).
- Occasional overnight travel required.
