Position: Postdoctoral Fellow (PREP0004332)

About the Position

PREP Research Associate (Research Engineer) in Coastal Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, Whiting School of Engineering, Office of Research and Translation.

Salary: $82,000-$89,000.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participation in the compilation of field data and other information on Hurricane Ian, its associated hazards, and effects on the built environment.
  • Providing expertise and support in computational fluid dynamics and hydrodynamic simulations for characterizing hurricane risks and their effects on coastal infrastructure.
  • Supporting the development and dissemination of research results through conference presentations and publication of journal papers and reports.
  • Assisting in the development or revision of standards and codes for improved resilience of the built environment against wave‑ and surge‑induced hazards.
Required Qualifications
  • PhD degree in Civil or Coastal Engineering or a related field.
  • At least one year of specialized experience applying computational techniques for simulation and characterization of loadings due to hurricane hazards—wind, storm surge, currents, and waves—and their effects on coastal buildings, infrastructure, and communities.
  • Experience running simulations of coastal engineering models on supercomputers using Slurm, Python, Fortran, Linux, and AI.
  • Experience conducting field and laboratory experiments in Coastal Engineering.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with a record of publications in refereed journals on CFD and coastal topics.
  • Preferred

    U.S. citizenship preferred.
