Position: Postdoctoral Fellow (PREP0004774)

Overview

PREP Research Associate – This position is part of the National Institute of Standards (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. Salary: $82,000-$89,000 a year. In this role, the employee will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration in coastal engineering.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expertise and support in hydrodynamic simulations and computational fluid dynamics to characterize hurricane and extreme wind risks on the coastal built‑environment and quantify their effects on structures and communities.
  • Participate in field data collection related to Hurricane Ian or similar future events when warranted.
Qualifications
  • PhD degree in Civil or Coastal Engineering or a related field.
  • At least one year of specialized experience applying computational techniques to simulate and characterize loading due to hurricane hazards, including wind, storm surge, and waves, and their effects on coastal buildings, infrastructure, and communities.
  • Experience running hurricane simulations with coastal engineering models; knowledge of Xbeach or FUNWAVE is most useful.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
