The OpportunityCACI is seeking a skilled Composites Specialist to join our team in support of prototype development and low-rate production of unmanned aerial systems. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with composite layup, tooling preparation, part trimming and finishing, and minor structural repairs. This role requires attention to detail, the ability to interpret engineering drawings and build instructions, and a strong background in composite fabrication processes used in aerospace applications.
Responsibilities- Perform layup and fabrication of composite parts using wet layup, vacuum bagging, and other composite techniques
- Prepare molds and tooling for use in fabrication, including cleaning, sealing, and applying release agents
- Trim, fit, and finish composite components using hand tools and power tools by engineering requirements
- Interpret and follow build instructions, engineering drawings, and technical documentation
- Identify and report fabrication defects or deviations from design specifications
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and adhere to safety and quality standards
- Work collaboratively with engineers and other technicians to support rapid prototyping and production builds
- Active Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one
- Experience in composite part fabrication, including layup, vacuum bagging, curing, and trimming
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, build instructions, and technical specifications
- Familiarity with the use of composite materials such as fiberglass, carbon fiber, epoxy resins, and core materials
- Proficiency with hand and power tools used for trimming, sanding, and finishing composite parts
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain quality standards in a fast‑paced production environment
- Ability to lift and manipulate medium to large parts and work in a shop environment
- Experience supporting prototype or low-rate production builds in an aerospace or defense environment
- Knowledge of composite repair techniques and rework procedures
- Familiarity with pre‑preg layup and oven/autoclave curing processes
- Experience documenting fabrication processes or contributing to build documentation
