The UAV Build Technician will focus on the fabrication, assembly, and integration of multi-rotor and fixed-wing COTS UAS platforms. This role involves working with advanced materials like carbon fiber, aluminum alloys, and fiberglass, as well as integrating internal components such as avionics, propulsion systems, and sensors. The technician will be responsible for ensuring the structural integrity and functionality of UAV platforms, collaborating with Red Team Pilots and engineers to build reliable systems from the ground up.
This position is ideal for someone with hands‑on experience in UAV construction and component integration who enjoys solving complex technical challenges in a controlled setting. The role requires attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to ensuring that all platforms meet design specifications and quality standards.
- Fabricate, assemble, modify, and maintain multi-rotor and fixed-wing UAS platforms.
- Familiar with a range of materials and components used in UAV construction, such as carbon fiber, aluminum alloys and various power plants.
- Install, operate, and tune small 2-stroke and 4-stroke internal combustion engines.
- Program and configure UAV autopilot systems (e.g., Pixhawk, Ardupilot) and telemetry equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to electrical, mechanical, and flight control systems.
- Collaborate with engineers, pilots, government leads, and project managers to deliver reliable UAV solutions.
- Conduct safety checks and ensure compliance with operational standards, regulations, and quality requirements.
- Work independently on UAV builds and modifications while meeting project deadlines and specifications.
Hands‑on experience with COTS multi-rotor and fixed-wing UAVs, including hobbyist or professional experience.
- Proficiency with hand tools and experience building/flying radio control aircraft.
- Familiarity with construction materials such as foam, fiberglass, carbon fiber, and aluminum alloys.
- Strong knowledge of small internal combustion engines (2-stroke and 4-stroke).
- Experience troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and software issues.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment under limited instruction.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow complex technical instructions.
- High School Diploma with 3–5 years of experience.
- Current Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain TS/SCI.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
- Experience with RPVs (land, air, sea) platforms.
