Job Description & How to Apply Below

You’ve proven you can lead. What do you still want the opportunity to build?

Some nursing leadership opportunities are about maintaining what already exists.

This one is about what you can influence next.

We are conducting a confidential search for an accomplished Executive Director of Critical Care, Stepdown & Neuroscience to lead approximately 320 FTEs across some of the most clinically complex and important areas of a respected 500-bed, Level II trauma hospital in the Baltimore market.

This is significant executive nursing leadership scope—quality, clinical outcomes, workforce strategy, labor and productivity, patient experience, regulatory excellence, leadership development and day-to-day operational performance.

But scope alone isn’t what makes this opportunity compelling.

A CNO Partnership Worth Considering

This Executive Director will report to a CNO whose own career was built through critical care and emergency nursing, Clinical Nurse Specialist practice, Clinical Excellence and major clinical operations leadership before advancing to the CNO role.

She understands what it means to lead from the bedside to the boardroom.

Her leadership journey has included advancing evidence-based practice, clinical excellence, simulation, competency-based nurse development, patient safety and operational transformation.

For the right leader, that means something important:

You won’t have to explain why nursing practice, frontline engagement, professional development and clinical excellence matter.

You'll have a CNO who already understands—and expects—you to help advance them.

This May Be Your Opportunity If…

  • You are a successful nursing leader who isn’t necessarily looking to leave.
  • You may work for an outstanding hospital or academic medical center today. You respect your organization. You’ve built a strong reputation. You’re proud of what you’ve accomplished.
  • But you may also be wondering how much more you have the opportunity to build where you are.
  • Perhaps the next leadership seat doesn’t open often.
  • Perhaps you’re ready to move beyond responsibility for a department or service line and demonstrate what you can accomplish across a much larger clinical portfolio.
  • Perhaps you’re simply ready for a larger canvas on which to lead.

We’re Looking for More Than an Operator

Yes, you must understand operations.

You'll be accountable for approximately 320 FTEs and significant clinical and operational performance across Critical Care, Stepdown and Neuroscience.

But we’re looking for someone who also believes:

  • Great nursing cultures are intentionally built.
  • Developing the leaders beneath you is part of your responsibility.
  • Data should drive decisions without losing sight of the patient behind the metric.
  • Clinical excellence and operational excellence belong together.
  • Frontline nurses deserve leaders who listen, communicate the "why" and create environments where people can do their best work.
  • Accountability and compassion are not competing leadership philosophies.

The strongest candidate will bring a critical care nursing foundation
, progressive nursing leadership experience and the ability to think strategically while remaining connected to clinical practice and the people delivering it.

A BSN and master’s degree are required
, along with significant progressive nursing leadership experience. Advanced nursing education and relevant professional certifications are highly valued.

Why Make the Move?

Not simply for another title.

Not simply for compensation.

And certainly not because you’re unhappy where you are.

Consider it because you are ready for greater impact, greater leadership scope and the opportunity to help shape what nursing excellence looks like across an important clinical enterprise.

This could be an exceptional next step for a strong Director, Senior Director or comparable nursing leader who has demonstrated the ability to lead through complexity and is ready for broader executive responsibility.

The question isn’t whether you’re successful where you are.

It’s whether you’ve had the opportunity to show everything you’re capable of doing.

If that question gives you pause, I’d welcome a confidential conversation.
