The NIST Summer High School Intern Program (SHIP) is a prestigious 8‑week research internship for U.S. high school juniors and seniors, offering hands‑on experience at one of the nation’s top federal laboratories. Hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology, SHIP allows students to work alongside leading scientists and engineers in fields like AI, robotics, quantum physics, cybersecurity, and materials science.

This research internship helps students develop technical and problem‑solving skills while contributing to real research projects. Over 8 weeks, participants gain hands‑on lab experience, sharpen their technical and problem‑solving skills, and have a chance to present their work.
