Research Scientist, Data Scientist
PREP Post-Masters Researcher (US Citizen)
This position is part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Professional Research Experience (PREP) program. The PREP program enables NIST staff to collaborate with researchers at academic institutions on specific projects of mutual interest, and requires that the collaborating institution receive a PREP award. Employees in this role will perform technical work that underpins the scientific research of the collaboration.
This position requires United States citizenship.
The role will collaborate with NIST researchers and NIST’s external collaborators in a variety of topics relevant to their work, including social scientists, engineers, and scientists. The focus is on connecting economics to fundamental research and delivering multi-disciplinary analysis and decision support tools related to areas such as building and infrastructure, circular economy, resilience, and decision science.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze data
- Review relevant literature
- Assist in designing data collection instruments
- Write reports and research articles
- Assist in publishing within refereed journals and technical research series
- Communicate research at professional conferences
- US citizenship
- A master’s degree in economics, social science, psychology, policy, or a related field
- Background in econometrics or statistics and at least two of the following areas:
- Applied microeconomics
- Decision-science or behavioral science
- Environmental economics
- Environmental studies
- Geography
- Non-market valuation
- Policy
- Psychology
- Regional studies or planning
- Regional economics
- Risk and uncertainty
- Social science
- Sociology
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Logical thinking and problem solving
- Patience and attention to detail
- Excellent writing and communication skills
Salary range: minimum to maximum salaries based on Johns Hopkins University’s good faith belief at the time of posting. Compensation may vary based on location, skills, experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training, and other factors.
