The work will entailThe National Fire Research Laboratory (NFRL) is the nation's premier laboratory for studying the dynamics of full-scale structural fires. The candidate will collaborate with researchers to develop and evaluate metrology to accurately measure heat, smoke production, and fire-related emissions to better predict fire spread and the efficacy of fire safety solutions. The project aims to expand NFRL's measurement capabilities with applications of state-of-the-art technologies to improve existing temperature and heat-transfer measurements and increase the current suite of gaseous emissions measurements, to better quantify heat and mass transfer induced by fire.
Keyresponsibilities will include but are not limited to
- Design experiments and conduct data analysis
- Set up and deploy instrumentation and data acquisition
- Develop strategies for real-time gas and smoke analysis
- Develop strategies for acquiring and analyzing data from thermal sensors
- Communicate results through presentations, technical reports, and archival journals
