Salary: $123,311-$124,000 a year
OverviewThis position is part of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Professional Research Experience Program (PREP). It involves collaborating with academic researchers on the development and deployment of analysis pipelines for advanced body‑armor design concepts. The role requires applying digital image correlation techniques, developing analysis tools, performing uncertainty quantification, preparing datasets, and assisting with new test methods.
Responsibilities- Investigating storage methods for maintenance data
- Determining methods to stream synthetic data for public consumption
- Analyzing heterogeneous data sources
- Presenting results at internal meetings and occasional meetings with external stakeholders
- Ensuring that results, protocols, software, and documentation have been archived or otherwise transmitted to the larger organization
- A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Solid Mechanics, Material Science, or a related field
- 5+ years of relevant experience
- Experience with using and developing digital image correlation, particle tracking, and related tools
- Familiarity with mechanical testing instruments such as load frames, drop towers, and similar devices
- Experience with scripting languages including Matlab and Python
- Familiarity with developing materials datasets and publishing FAIR data
- Familiarity with body armor and impact mitigation materials and concepts
- Strong oral and written communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills
